going deeper ...to go further

The more rooted we are in God and in His Word, the more fruitful we become in His purposes

Throughout this year we’re encouraging everyone at Kingdom Faith Church to get a Bible, a journal and a pen and to S.O.A.P. your way through the scriptures. Below you’ll see what we’re reading today.

  • GAL 5 Galatians 5
  • MAL 2 Malachi 2
  • Freedom in Christ1Christ has set us free to live in freedom. So stand fast in that freedom and do not allow yourselves to be yoked again in slavery.2Listen carefully: I, Paul, tell you clearly that if you allow yourselves to become legalistically religious again, Christ will be of no value to you.3I say it again to everyone, if you have become legalistic you are obligated to obey every aspect of the religious law.4For those of you who are trying to make yourselves acceptable through obeying the religious code have become separated from Christ; you have deserted the life of grace.5For it is by the Spirit that we eagerly await the hope of our eternal acceptance by faith.6For in Christ Jesus neither being a Jew nor a Gentile is of any significance; all that matters is that you live a life of faith that is expressed in a life of love for God and others.7You were making such good progress. So who is now preventing you from obeying the truth?8This certainly is not the influence of the One who has called you.9A little yeast soon affects the whole lump of dough!10In the Lord I have confidence in you, that you will not be side-tracked. Anyone who tries to influence you in that way will certainly be judged, no matter who he may be.11Brothers, if I am still preaching conformity to the religious law, why am I still being persecuted? For in that case the offence caused by the cross would have been abolished.12I wish that those who cause all this trouble, persuading you Gentile believers that you must be circumcised and so become subject to the religious law, would apply the knife to themselves.13Brothers, you were called to live in freedom, but do not use your freedom from legalism as an opportunity to do whatever you like. No, instead serve one another as the outworking of your love for one another.14For the whole of the law can be fulfilled through obedience to the one command that says, "You are to love your neighbour as yourself."15However, if you fight and snap at one another you had better watch out or you will destroy each other.Life in the Spirit16So I say, walk in the ways the Spirit leads you, and you will not gratify what your self-life desires!17For that self-life desires what opposes the Spirit and the Spirit leads you in ways that involve denying that self-life. These are two contradictory ways. This means that you are not free to do whatever you wish.18But if you choose to be led by the Spirit you will not live under the bondage of the religious law.19-21This self-life will manifest itself in such works as these: adultery, sex outside of marriage, other forms of immorality and lust, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, divisions, jealousy and outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissentions to authority, party factions, envy, murder, drunkenness, orgies and other such things. As I have warned you before, those who live in such ways will not inherit God's Kingdom.22-23However, the fruit the Spirit produces in you is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. There is no law against such things!24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed to the cross their passions and desires that contradict the Spirit!25So if we live by the Spirit, let us keep ourselves in line with what the Spirit desires.26Let us not become conceited, neither provoking nor envying one another.

  • 1“And now, you priests, this warning is for you. 2If you do not listen, and if you do not resolve to honor my name,” says the Lord Almighty, “I will send a curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not resolved to honor me. 3“Because of you I will rebuke your descendants; I will smear on your faces the dung from your festival sacrifices, and you will be carried off with it. 4And you will know that I have sent you this warning so that my covenant with Levi may continue,” says the Lord Almighty. 5“My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him; this called for reverence and he revered me and stood in awe of my name. 6True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin. 7“For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth. 8But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble; you have violated the covenant with Levi,” says the Lord Almighty. 9“So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not followed my ways but have shown partiality in matters of the law.”10Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our ancestors by being unfaithful to one another? 11Judah has been unfaithful. A detestable thing has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the Lord loves by marrying women who worship a foreign god. 12As for the man who does this, whoever he may be, may the Lord remove him from the tents of Jacob—even though he brings an offering to the Lord Almighty. 13Another thing you do: You flood the Lord’s altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer looks with favor on your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. 14You ask, “Why?” It is because the Lord is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. 15Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit. And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth. 16“The man who hates and divorces his wife,” says the Lord, the God of Israel, “does violence to the one he should protect,” says the Lord Almighty. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful.17You have wearied the Lord with your words.“How have we wearied him?” you ask.By saying, “All who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord, and he is pleased with them” or “Where is the God of justice?”

  • S.O.A.P.

In order to go further in the mission God has given us, He said we need to go deeper in our relationship with Him. As with any tree or plant, the fruit is determined by the health and depth of the root. One way we have been going deeper is by reading and journaling through the Word every day. We’ve called it S.O.A.P.

    [S]cripture - Read the Word
[O]bservation - Write down what God is saying/showing you
[A]pplication - How do we apply this in our lives?
[P]rayer - Pray through and over your life

As we read the Word (Scripture), listen to the Holy Spirit (Observation), discover how to apply that to our lives (Application) and pray these things over our lives and those in the Church (Prayer) we’re going deeper in our relationship with God so that we can go further in the mission He’s given us.

Throughout the rest of the year we’ll be continuing our Bible Reading Plan to press deeper into God so that we can go further in His purposes. Get yourself a Bible, a journal and a pen and SOAP your way through the scriptures!

You can see which chapters we’re reading today above this section.
